I too went to the great went but never saw jim. It wasn't until I returned home that I was
able to find Jim's site online and I sent him a email. I really like the went poster and
hoped to get one. My poster (ed. Robot) is backed with more of a orange color than red
like you see online. I believe it is number 19 of 100 and I bought it for $10. It wasn't
until years later that I realised its true value...of course I will never sell it. Too
much sentimental value.
(from email - 1/8/03)
Myself and the 2 friends I was touring with went to his booth on 8-17
between sets 1 + 2. we placed our orders and noticed that he was stamping out numbers
45-50 at that time. he told us to come back after the show for our prints. when we arrived
after the encore, numbers 89-100 of each (robot and scarecrow) were hanging from the dry
lines. my friend Jen got #89 of each, my friend Brooks got #90 of each and I got #91 of
each. dont know if anyone else came in after us, but Pollock told us we were the last of
the pre-orders. My friend managed a poster/frame shop in Charlotte, NC at the time and
asked Pollock if he would be interested in selling stuff at the shop. Pollock said sure
and they exchanged information. after we got back to NC, my friend called him up and found
out there was still 3 matching number sets and 3 non-matching number sets left. the frame
shop bought ALL of them. the matching number sets were framed and hung for display/sale
and the non-matching sets were left individual unframed for sale.
NO ONE BOUGHT THESE POSTERS.
in 2000 the frame shop went under and my friend took the Pollocks. I know at least 2 of
the matching number sets from the frame shop were sold in late 2000/2001. I ran into hard
times due to job lay-offs and was forced to sell my set in March 2001. Jen had to sell 1
of her pieces(not sure which one)in late 2000.
hope some of this comes in handy,
nic
